Launched by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, this sub-scheme under the umbrella of the “PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India for OBCs and Others (PM-YASASVI)” provides comprehensive educational assistance to students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Economically Backward Classes (EBC), and Denotified, Nomadic Tribes (DNT). Funded entirely by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, this program is a significant step towards promoting higher education and facilitating the personal and professional growth of students from these communities.

Objective

The primary objective of the PM-YASASVI scheme is to recognize and promote quality education among students from OBC, EBC, and DNT categories by offering full financial support. This initiative aims to cover educational expenses for students pursuing studies beyond Class XII, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their academic and professional aspirations.

 Scope and Coverage

The scheme is applicable to all institutions notified by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment from the financial year 2021-22 onwards. Once awarded, the scholarship continues until the completion of the course, subject to the student’s satisfactory academic performance. Students must reapply for the scholarship each year, even for renewals.

Benefits

Students who secure admission in notified institutions under the PM-YASASVI scheme are entitled to several benefits, including:

1. Tuition Fees and Non-Refundable Charges:

– Full coverage up to ₹2.00 lakhs per annum for private sector institutions.
– Up to ₹3.72 lakhs per annum for private sector flying clubs for Commercial Pilot Training and Type Rating Courses.

2. Living Expenses:
– ₹3,000 per month per student.

3. Books and Stationery:
– ₹5,000 per annum per student.

4. Computer/Laptop:
– One-time assistance of up to ₹45,000 for a latest computer/laptop with accessories like UPS and printer.

 Eligibility

To be eligible for the PM-YASASVI scheme, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Category:
– Belong to OBC, EBC, or DNT categories.

2. Income:
– Annual family income from all sources should not exceed ₹2.50 lakhs.

3. Admission:
– Secure admission in a full-time prescribed course in a notified institution.

4. Siblings:
– The scheme benefits are limited to two siblings per family.
Top Class’ Institutions

Eligible institutions under this scheme include all IIMs, IITs, IIITs, AIIMSs, NITs, NIFTs, NIDs, Indian Institutes of Hotel Management, National Law Universities, and other central government institutions. Additional eligibility criteria include institutions accredited by NAAC with A++ and A+ ratings, top 100 NIRF institutions, and institutions of national importance as per the Ministry of Education.

 Application Process

Students can apply for the PM-YASASVI scholarship through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). The process involves:

1. New Applicants:
– Register on the NSP website.
– Fill out the registration form with the required details.

2. Registered Applicants:
– Log in to the NSP website.
– Fill out the scholarship application form and upload the necessary documents.

 Required Documents

Applicants need to submit the following documents:

1. Aadhaar Card
2. Passport size photograph
3. Educational qualification marksheets/certificates
4. Valid income certificate issued by the competent authority
5. Domicile certificate
6. Caste/Community certificate issued by the competent authority
7. Disability certificate (if applicable)
8. Bank account details
9. Admission rank proof
10. Proof of fee details
11. Any other documents as required
